Okinawa Beach Yoga

Wind, waves, sand,
and you
Beach yoga that takes in
Okinawa with all five senses

Water so clear it stops you, and sky with nothing in the way. At dawn or dusk, when the light is at its most beautiful, you meet that sea. Beach yoga that takes in Okinawa's nature with all five senses.

About

Time to take in Okinawa
with your whole body

Okinawa Beach Yoga runs small-group yoga sessions on the finest beaches in the prefecture. The mat goes down on white sand, with blue water stretching out in front of you as far as you can see.

Every pose is shaped to let you feel Okinawa's nature. It is not simply moving your body — give a day of your trip to an hour in which the senses open.

Today's sea,
all to yourself

The Five Senses

With every breath,
the senses open

An openness with no ceiling, which no studio can offer. The softness of sand under bare feet, the sea breeze against your cheek. All of Okinawa's nature slowly loosens body and mind.

01 The waves Lay your breathing over the rhythm coming in and drawing back
02 Sea and sky The gradient of a horizon that goes on and on
03 Sand underfoot The soft warmth of white sand against bare feet
04 The shore's scent A faint trace of the sea, carried on the breeze
05 Salt on the air After a deep breath, a hint of salt left on your lips
Golden Hours

At the hour the sea
is at its most beautiful

A woman practising yoga by the sea in the morning

Morning yoga

Morning
Starts around 6:00–7:00 (6:00 in August)|60 min

In clear air, bathed in the morning sun, you wake the body slowly. It turns an ordinary day into something else.

Beach yoga at sunset

Sunset yoga

Sunset
Starts around 17:00–18:30 (18:30 in August)|60 min

The sun goes down and the sky turns from madder to indigo. You breathe deeply beside water holding those colours.

Original Asanas

Poses you will find
nowhere but Okinawa

The guardian lion, the celebration dance, a toast with Orion beer. Original poses found nowhere else, named after Okinawa's guardians and dances, its landmarks and its creatures. You laugh a little, and find your body and mind have already come loose. That is the hour Okinawa Beach Yoga gives you.

The guardian lion
01 Shīsā

The guardian lion

Like Shīsā, the guardian on the rooftop, spread both arms wide, open your chest and stand tall. The breath deepens and your outlook lifts with it.

The celebration dance
02 Kachāshī

The celebration dance

Hands to the sky, wrists turning, swaying. Exactly as the Okinawan hand dance, close enough to hear the sanshin.

A toast to the sunset
03 Orion Beer

A toast to the sunset

At the end of the day, thank the sun for its work. The reward pose, named after Okinawa's own beer.

And More
04

Manzamō cliff

A slow forward fold, like that elephant-trunk cliff.

05

The seahorse

Round your back and purse your lips, drifting.

06

Sea grapes

All those little beads, gathered in.

07

Yārū, the house gecko

Low and supple, like a gecko crossing a wall.

Poses are built around the experience of the people who come and the temperature on the day. First-timers have nothing to worry about.

Photography

The most beautiful moment,
in a single photograph

We set aside time during the lesson for photographs. You against Okinawa's scenery, framed by instructors who know these beaches well. The files are yours to keep — one frame that stays with the trip.

Instructors

Why first-timers
are the ones who shine

You are guided by instructors with real skill and experience, who know Okinawa's water inside out. They bring a spirit of hospitality to your hour by the sea.

That is why people new to yoga genuinely enjoy it, and why experienced practitioners go deeper. Each person is guided individually, paced to how they feel that day.
