Koki Beach

A kilometre of beach with no swimming-area limits

A long beach running close to a kilometre. There are no jellyfish nets or jet skis to break it up, and it feels open all year round. For that view and for the showers and cooking facilities, the campsite fills with tents on early-summer weekends.

A long beach

Koki Beach A long beach

About a kilometre of white sand. The first photograph on this page shows the view to the left as you face the sea, and this one the view to the right. People in the distance look small.

Swim as far as you like

Koki Beach Swim as far as you like

There is no marked swimming area and nothing dangerous such as jet skis, so you can swim as far as you like. The depth increases gently, which is reassuring with children.

You can camp

Koki Beach You can camp

The campsite is beside the management building. A pitch is ¥2,000–2,500 per tent. The building has toilets and showers and a small washing-up area. Some people set up a tarp for a day camp. The site is not large — room for about 30 five-person tents packed together — so it gets fairly busy on early-summer weekends.

Good to Know

Water clarity and gradation

Koki Beach Water clarity and gradation

On a clear day the clarity and gradation look exactly like this photograph. Both are a little above average compared with other beaches.

Shade

Koki Beach Shade

Places to sit in the shade and look at the sea are unfortunately few. The one spot is under the big tree at the far right as you face the beach. Otherwise there is the paid campsite and the bench against the wall in front of the shower block (see the photograph below).

Toilets, foot rinse, showers and washing-up

Koki Beach Toilets, foot rinse, showers and washing-up

The management building right in front of the beach has toilets, a foot rinse and showers, separate for men and women, and it is relatively clean. The area at the bottom right of this photograph is for washing up — you can rinse food there when camping.

Opening periods and hours for showers and toilets

Koki Beach Opening periods and hours for showers and toilets

The showers are available year-round: 9:00–17:30 in summer and 9:00–19:30 in winter. The toilets are open 24 hours all year, but the car park gate closes at 20:00 in summer and 18:00 in winter.

Washing-up area

Canteens, cafés and shops

Koki Beach Canteens, cafés and shops

The closest place to eat is Island Cafe Marine Bar, where you can have a café meal looking out at the sea. There is no shop, so no marine equipment to buy or hire. For food and drink, there is a FamilyMart facing the beach.

Note

It faces Route 58, which makes it easy to reach but means it never feels remote. This is a beach to enjoy casually.
